FASHION Magazine August 2014 cover: Zoe Saldana

While many actors and actresses are nowhere near as beguiling as the roles they play, Zoe Saldana—who graces our August 2014 cover—cannot be counted as one of them. Known for nailing roles such as the wildcat Prima Donna of Center Stage, a warrior-princess named Neytiri in Avatar, and Star Trek’s fiercest Lieutenant, Nyota Uhura, Saldana’s is just-as omnipotent off screen. Arriving in L.A.’s Milk Studio for her shoot, alongside her trusted Toto-from-Oz looking dog, Mugsy (who actually tried to pull focus and ran in front of her a couple of times whilst the photographer was snapping), the former dancer-turned-actress/producer twirled, sang and joked during the entire day on set. After busting into Alvin Ailey style choreography and hitting a few Beyoncé high notes while posing for the camera, Saldana sat down with FASHION’s features editor, Elio Iannacci, to chat about the next couple of flicks, which include the next installments to Star Trek, Avatar as well as two new badass roles in Guardians of The Galaxy (as alien martial arts master, Gamora) and Nina, a biopic of civil rights singer/musician Nina Simone, aka the legendary High Priestess of Soul. “I was a ferocious dancer so therefore I was a ferocious up-and-coming actress. When it comes to auditions, I’m not competitive with anybody. I don’t even know who’s sitting next to me. I wouldn’t even tell you if it was a blonde or brunette. The moment you compare yourself, it weakens you.”
Fashion Magazine August 2014 Zoe Saldana
“I was finally able to spend time without being in a relationship and even though, it was a short period of time, it was beautiful. Where I lost that fear of being alone. It was bliss. Then I met my partner when I was in really a beautiful place in my life. It was like I found all my answers with him not in him. I was finding my answers on my own.”
“[Neytiri] is stronger than what I wanted this time, but she’s also very vulnerable. It’s very much her journey and I accepted the job again because I believe the script has her going in the right path. Jake and Neytiri are very much still a force to be reckoned with.”
“It’s important to not have women be afraid of you, to accept your mortality and your aging so that you can be a better mentor for up and coming women. Whenever these young women come and they just want to take everything all at once, just because they’re younger and their asses are harder and plumper, you kind of go, ‘Child, sit down. Yes, you’re beautiful but listen to these 1, 2, 3s.’ 1. Don’t hike up your skirt too much. 2. I’m pretty sure you’re intelligent so act like it. 3. Read a book.”

Vintage wedding dresses---KissyDress

I believe in the connections between people. I believe in love. They are more palpable than most things in our lives, and I love to capture them on camera. I also love to capture light in all its forms, and let it help tell a story of who we are. Photography of vintage wedding is always my fav and I have collected several wedding photos today, wanna share with you and hope you will like them also.

A lovely ivory silk satin gown from the 1930's. Bias cut gown with beadwork that accents a diamond shaped neckline. Covered buttons down the back and a chapel length train. Dress is in VERY good condition. No rips or tears. No noticeable spots or stains. Extremely rare to find art deco gowns in anything larger than a small!

1940's gown features an intricately decorated neckline and bodice. The design is made up of beads and scrolling embroidery. It has a diamond shaped neckline and is fitted through the bodice. The waist is gathered on sides, cathedral length train and a side metal zipper.

One of a kind 1950's silk satin strapless gown with optional pullover Chantilly lace crop top. Satin gown features an empire waist that is fitted through bodice with a full skirt. The gown was pictured without crinoline, but could be worn with one for a much fuller look. Hand stitched Chantilly lace detailing along the train and up back of the skirt.

Vintage gown features a heavily beaded bodice with faux pearls and Chantilly lace, a scalloped neckline with lace that delicately drapes over the shoulders, a sheer back with zip closure and hook & eye at neck, and a chapel train with chiffon overlay trimmed with matching lace.

Four things to do after you are engaged---from KissyDress

What? You are engaged! Congratulation! Are you little confused what to do next? Different people have different schedule for their post engagement schedule. For those couples who haven’t been together long may still need to decide where to live and meet each other’s extended families, while for those who’ve already cohabitated for years getting engaged may seem more like a formality. But wherever you fall on that continuum, there are a few things every engaged couple should do:

Prep for all the questions. Tell people you’re engaged, and questions pour out of them.  While it’s sweet that everybody is so curious about whether you’ve set a date, where the wedding will be, if you’re changing your name, and how many kids you want.

Plan a trip (other than a honeymoon). Wedding planning is often the best of times and the most stressful, so plan a get-away for just the two of you around the half-way mark between your engagement and your wedding. Though it might feel indulgent to travel when you have a wedding and honeymoon to look forward to (and save up for), taking time away from menu planning and stationery ordering will give you a chance to do some crucial relaxing and reconnecting.

Start new traditions. Now that you know you’ll be spending your lives together, create some rituals you can continue for forever. Maybe you try out a new restaurant every Monday night or stay in bed and read on rainy weekends—whatever rituals you choose, these little just-you-two traditions will become relationship glue over the years and decades ahead.

Shop for your wedding rings. Don’t wait until right before your wedding to look at rings. There are more wedding band options, both for men and women, than you might realize. Do you want
matching wedding rings? A custom design? An antique wedding band? Give yourself plenty of time to browse and pick the perfect thing. -
